Calgary women listen up!

Yes, you can have photos of yourself that you love.

You deserve the boost in confidence that comes with a makeover and portrait experience.

I call this project 30 Days of Gorgeous. I invited 30 women over the age of 35 to participate in this project with me.

This is Dalayce.

Dalayce has never been photographed professionally and at 50 years old, she wanted to mark this transition in her life.

30 Days of Gorgeous:

A Photography Project in Calgary Featuring the Beauty of Women 35 and Older

Tell me your story, Dalayce.

I was raised as a farm kid, but I never really fit in.

I was the chubby kid and I was “too smart”.

I moved to the city on my own when I was 17 and have never looked back.

I put myself through post-secondary school on student loans and scholarships and obtained a math degree followed by an engineering degree.

My career skyrocketed and I traveled the world doing automation and controls work in a very male-dominated profession.

Even on-site in coveralls, I always kept my “feminine”.

I put my love and trust into someone who ultimately betrayed me, but I am a capable, strong person and am moving on with my life.

I took careful stock when my life was forced into transition and decided to return to school to obtain a degree in fine art which I finished in May.

I am poised at the edge of entering the next stage in my life.

Why do you want to participate in the 30 Days of Gorgeous?

I am at a transition point in my life.

I just turned 50, I am graduating from my BFA degree soon and my divorce will be entering the final stages (after five years of separation) once my schooling is done.

I would love to have some beautiful photos done as a self-esteem boost and a memento of a fresh start.

What does being a woman of your age mean to you?

I go to school with a bunch of 20-somethings and never feel out of place.

I have (good) friends ranging from their 20’s to their 60’s.

Age is just a number.

I don’t let that number tell me who I should be or what I should be doing.

What is the number one piece of advice you'd tell your younger self?

He’s not the right guy.

You feel drawn to his stability, but it’s not worth it. Wait.

Take the risk and find the exciting one rather than the safe one.

That way if/when it ends, at least you had fun.

What makes you feel beautiful?

I have recently lost some weight and on days when I have the time to spend with my flat iron putting soft waves in my hair and get my eyeliner just right, I feel like I look better now than I ever have.

Add a beautiful underwear set and the jeans I can finally fit back into and I feel unstoppable.
