Meet Monique. This is her story:

"I married when I was 27 because it was “time”. Less than 10 years later I was divorced and on my own with 2 children. That was 12 years ago. I have spent all those years building a a great life for me and my children. I was told at one point that I was a pathetic single mom and that has stuck with me for. years. I no longer feel that way and believe I have risen above what people thought I would become."

What does beauty mean to you?

"Beauty is a BIG word! It is so many things! As crazy and dorky as it sounds, it has tons to do with the inside! I love to feel pretty and beautiful and sexy but that can be taken away in a second if I feel ugly inside. Every day it is a choice to be ugly or beautiful."

When do you feel most beautiful?

"I feel most beautiful when I laugh and even better if I can make someone else laugh with me."

What does being a woman mean to you?

"I am a woman through and through. I love feeling feminine but not weak. I love to be told I’m pretty but respected at the same time. Being a woman is a great responsibility. I am a business owner, a career woman, a leader and a mom. But I love pink too! I have a lot of power even if I’m crying!"

What do you love about yourself?

"I love my ability to make people happy!"

What is your biggest fear about having your portrait taken?

"The one with no makeup!"

Why do you want to participate in the 30 Days of Gorgeous?

"To be a part of this it would show my strength. That strength is something I want to show my daughter who is 16 and struggling with her identity. I want to show her that it doesn’t matter your age, race, hair color, tall, short, etc. We are all beautiful and blessed."
